The Greater Hyde County Chamber of Commerce was incorporated the state of North Carolina on October 31, 1989. It was organized   for the purpose of promoting economic development and tourism and advancing the commercial, industrial, and civic interests of Hyde County, NC and its trade area. It is a non-partisan, non-sectional, non-sectarian organization that observes all local, state, and federal laws that apply to a non-profit organization as defined in Section 501(c)(6) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Though the  County’s population is  just over 5,800, the Chamber has over 240 members, which is quite an outstanding achievement. Recurrent "Issues Luncheons" are held with topics of interest geared to educate and keep members iknowleadgable. Issues Luncheons are held twice a year beginning on the second Tuesday of the designated month at 12 noon, dates to be announced and Chamber members are invited.

Beaufort County Community College's Small Business Center, Washington, NC, provides business seminars throughout the year, both on mainland Hyde County and Ocracoke Island with business associated topics.

The Chamber works closely with the County of Hyde regarding economic development issues and in the promotion of Hyde County for travel and tourism. Their association with North Carolina's Northeast Regional Economic Development Commission, both through economic development and tourism issues, provides additional resources.

The Chamber takes an active part in community activities, events and festivals.  The annual Mattamuskeet Fun Ride, a bike ride around and across Lake Mattamuskeet is sponsored by the Chamber.

You are invited to ''Take the Road Less Traveled'' and visit beautiful mainland Hyde County or Ocracoke Island.

We seek to preserve the values of those who have gone before us, the abundance of natural beauty and wildlife, and the heritage and culture of the County. At the same time, we are aware that ’times are a-changing’ and the future of our County depends on each of us working together for the good of the entire County.
