The Greater Hyde County Chamber of Commerce was incorporated the state of North Carolina on October 31, 1989. It was organized for the purpose of promoting economic development and tourism and advancing the commercial, industrial, and civic interests of Hyde County, NC and its trade area. It is a non-partisan, non-sectional, non-sectarian organization that observes all local, state, and federal laws that apply to a non-profit organization as defined in Section 501(c)(6) of the Internal Revenue Code.
Though the County’s population is just over 5,800, the Chamber has over 240 members, which is quite an outstanding achievement. Recurrent "Issues Luncheons" are held with topics of interest geared to educate and keep members iknowleadgable. Issues Luncheons are held twice a year beginning on the second Tuesday of the designated month at 12 noon, dates to be announced and Chamber members are invited.
Beaufort County Community College's Small Business Center, Washington, NC, provides business seminars throughout the year, both on mainland Hyde County and Ocracoke Island with business associated topics.
The Chamber works closely with the County of Hyde regarding economic development issues and in the promotion of Hyde County for travel and tourism. Their association with North Carolina's Northeast Regional Economic Development Commission, both through economic development and tourism issues, provides additional resources.
The Chamber takes an active part in community activities, events and festivals. The annual Mattamuskeet Fun Ride, a bike ride around and across Lake Mattamuskeet is sponsored by the Chamber.

The Chamber of Commerce is an action agency designed to meet the requirements of the entire Hyde County Community. We serve both the Mainland and Ocracoke Island. Our Members share a common interest in improving economic conditions, preserving our heritage, and guaranteeing a future in the County for our youth.
The Chamber was formed in 1989 by a group of volunteer individuals and businesses to enhance the commercial, financial, industrial, tourism and civic interests of Hyde County.
